Congratulations to Bankstown Bulls Junior Marcelo Montoya for winning the 2021 New Zealand Warriors Clubman of the Year following his performances in his first season at the NRL club.
Marcelo joined Bankstown Bulls in 2011 for the Super 15 season and played with the Bulls until 2014 – all under the coaching of Abdul Nabhan. He played Harold Matthews in 2012 and SG Ball in 2014.
Midway through the 2014 season Marcelo earned a contract to play for the Bulldogs Under 20’s team finishing his time as a player in the junior ranks. Even though his time as a junior league player came to a close he continued to help and support the Bulls whenever possible.
Marcelo progressed to the NRL in 2017 where he made 54 appearances in the top grade for the Bulldogs between 2017-2020. He’s also played International and World Cup matches for Fiji including the 2017 World Cup.
After being released by the Bulldogs, Marcelo moved to the Warriors where he had an exceptional first up season playing in 18 matches.
The 2019 Bankstown Bulls Executive honoured Marcelo Montoya’s achievements with the Bulls and NRL by creating the Marcelo Montoya Encouragement Award which goes to a 17-year-old player within the club that is yet to win a major award.
